Battery technology company 24M has announced the opening of a new manufacturing and research facility in Rayong, Thailand. The facility, co-developed with 24M’s partner Nuovo+, spans 71,000 square feet and is expected to accelerate the commercialization of 24M’s innovative battery technologies. The announcement also coincides with a significant $51.1 million investment from Nuovo+, which will be used to increase its ownership stake in 24M.

The new facility, acquired from Nuovo+, will be a fully integrated pilot manufacturing operation with the capacity to produce up to 100 MWh of 24M’s SemiSolid™ battery cells. This facility will enable 24M to demonstrate its battery technologies on a commercial scale and provide validation samples for industry partners. Initial production has already begun, with a focus on supplying a leading Indian mobility original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

“Our new Rayong facility provides an ideal platform to fully demonstrate the commercial capabilities and groundbreaking innovations within the 24M battery technology portfolio,” said Naoki Ota, President and CEO of 24M. “This will allow us to accelerate the commercialization of our products and respond more quickly to the needs of our global partners.”

24M’s expansion into Thailand is part of a broader effort to bring its proprietary SemiSolid and other advanced battery technologies to market. The company’s manufacturing process aims to reduce the costs of battery production while improving safety, efficiency, and recyclability. The SemiSolid electrode technology, for example, reduces the amount of material needed to produce each battery cell, cutting down costs associated with separators, current collectors, and energy consumption in the manufacturing process.

The Thailand facility will also serve as a hub for the development of other 24M innovations, including Impervio™, a battery separator designed to prevent fires caused by internal short circuits, and 24M LiForever™, a new recycling process for lithium-ion batteries. The Rayong plant provides the necessary scale to advance these technologies and accelerate their path to commercialization.

As part of the facility acquisition, Nuovo+, an affiliate of Thailand’s Global Power Synergy PLC (GPSC), will invest $51.1 million in 24M’s preferred stock. According to Darunporn Kamolpus, Managing Director of Nuovo+, this investment will enhance the efficiency of the Rayong facility and help 24M demonstrate its technologies on a commercial scale.

“Nuovo+ is fully committed to 24M and sees this as an opportunity to advance the commercialization of its battery technologies,” Kamolpus said. “By restructuring our battery business and partnering closely with 24M, we aim to accelerate the company’s ability to build and operate a full-scale commercial factory.”

24M’s push to bring its innovations to the global market aligns with its mission to provide affordable, safe, and sustainable energy storage solutions. Founded in 2010 and based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company has raised significant capital over the past decade to support the development and commercialization of its SemiSolid battery technology. The new Rayong facility is expected to play a key role in this effort, supporting 24M’s collaborations with partners across the globe.
